Google Camera Update Enhances Astrophotography Features for Pixel Users

Recent enhancements to Google's Camera app have introduced new manual controls for astrophotography on Pixel smartphones. This update allows users to finely tune their captures of celestial objects, including the Moon and stars, offering a more personalized experience in photographing the night sky. This change follows the introduction of other features aimed at improving accessibility for Pixel users.

The update, which raises the Camera app to version 9.5.118, was initially noticed by the Google News Telegram channel. Previously, activating the astrophotography mode required the device to be placed on a stable surface or tripod at night, as the mode would automatically engage under those conditions.

Now, users have the option to manually activate the astrophotography mode. To do so, they need to access the Night Sight mode settings and toggle the astrophotography feature. By adjusting the Night Sight duration slider, they can find an Astro option and tap the shutter button, initiating a 5-second countdown that allows time to steady the smartphone on a surface. If users prefer, they also have the ability to disable this feature.

According to Google, the duration for capturing images in astrophotography mode can extend up to four minutes, influenced by the environmental conditions at the time of shooting. For optimal results, the smartphone should remain steady until the photo is fully captured, and processing times may vary depending on the specific Pixel model and exposure settings.

Staff from Gadgets 360 confirmed that the update is functioning on various Pixel devices. It's worth noting that such updates are typically rolled out gradually, meaning updates may not be available to all users concurrently.
